With more than 1,400 homes, Vienna Woods is one of the largest & most mature neighborhoods in Vienna, VA. Vienna Woods is spread throughout Southwest Vienna where most of the original homes in the neighborhood were built in the 50’s and 60’s . Since then, the scarcity of land and the popularity of the location have meant that many of those homes have been torn down and new custom homes built. This started happening slowly in the 80’s and continues today. You’ll see all kinds of homes in Vienna Woods – from tiny little ramblers to charming Craftsman style houses & standard colonials.

The neighborhood includes multiple parks, as well as several private clubs, and options for recreation abound. You’ll find Meadow Lane Park in one corner and Southside Park at the opposite end. Cunningham Park rounds out the three parks. The parks provide playgrounds, tot lots, sports fields, basketball, volleyball, picnic areas and even tennis courts. Two private clubs are also in Vienna Woods – Vienna Aquatic Club (known as VAC) and Vienna Woods Swim & Tennis Club. Both clubs are very popular, but they have their own distinct personalities. VAC is a little more intimate in size, and not quite as active as Vienna Woods. Vienna Woods is larger, and in addition to the pool activities that VAC has, there are also tennis courts. Vienna Woods usually has a LONG waiting list to join, but rental memberships are sometimes available for new residents.

Convenience is a definite benefit of living in Vienna Woods. Many residents walk to the Vienna Metro and find easy commuting access to locations in Washington DC and all over Northern VA. And since Vienna Woods is in the heart of the Town of Vienna, you have access to every amenity, including top notch restaurants, grocery stores, entertainment and more.

Wendover Subdivision in Vienna, VA, is one of Vienna’s most sought after, close-in communities. Located just off Lawyers Road, but before you get to Hunter Mill Road, you’ll find an enchanting neighborhood of about 67 homes – a special enclave of winding streets, tree sheltered homes, charm & tranquility.

Northern Virginia Neighborhoods – How Do Streets Get Their Names?

Unlike U2’s song “Where The Streets Have No Name“, the streets in most Northern Virginia neighborhoods DO have names. But you might be surprised to find out where the names come from!

Take for example “Alliwells Court” and “South Erin Drive” in the Wendover Oaks neighborhood in Oakton. This subdivision was built a number of years ago by one of the builders The Belt Team represents. Allison & Erin Wells are two of the builder’s granddaughters. When you combine Allison’s first name and last name, you get “Alliwells”. So – “Alliwells Court” became one of the new streets in the neighborhood. Our builder did not want to leave Erin out, so she got her own street too: South Erin Drive!

Another example is “Brenner Court” in the Bennett Kiln neighborhood in Vienna. Bet you can’t guess this one. Nope – Brenner is not the builder’s son’s name or even grandson’s name. It’s his DOG’S name! How did that happen? Well, when a builder is developing a neighborhood, he has to submit a list of possible street names to Fairfax County. The County checks the names, rules out duplicates and then issues the street names. In this case, the builder submitted 15 street names and then jokingly said “and if none of those are available, name the street after my dog Brenner“. And so – we have Brenner Court in Vienna.

A third example is “Ceret Court” in Vienna. I’ll bet you didn’t know that “back in the day” Vienna had a Sister City in Ceret, France. How do we know that? Well, one of The Belt Team members was an exchange student from Vienna to Ceret back in 1979. Ceret is a small town just like Vienna and is located in Southern France. You might recognize Pablo Picasso as one of Ceret’s famous inhabitants of the early 20th century.
