Hurricane Harvey – What YOU Can Do

Dear Friends & Clients . . .

Thank you to those who have already reached out to us to see how you can help! It means a lot.

For those who don’t know, our company (Keller Williams Realty) is headquartered in Austin, Texas. This means we have thousands of agents in the Houston and surrounding areas that were hit by Hurricane Harvey. At present count, at least 300 of our agents (and thousands of other non KW folks) are out of their homes and many more severely impacted. 7,000 people will take refuge in Austin where many of us will be volunteering. Not only have they lost their homes, their pets and belongings – they will be impacted for months to come since their livelihood is dependent on the housing industry.

We have many personal friends who have been impacted. And many others who have been heroes, literally pulling people out of the water. One of many stories shared yesterday: “We finally found our cat. Floating by on a mattress.”

YOU CAN HELP.

Our company has an established 501(c)3 charity (KW Cares) with a long history and lots of experience in helping with disaster relief and recovery. We own multiple 18 wheelers for this purpose, the first of which arrived in Houston with supplies today. Rather than collecting water, clothing and other supplies, the best way you can help is to donate money. KW Cares is then able to buy in bulk. They are working closely with the Salvation Army & Red Cross, and will adjust what is purchased based on needs as they change day by day. 100% of all donations go to disaster relief. (All admin costs are personally handled by our Chairman Gary Keller and Vice Chairman of the Board Mo Anderson).

GOLF Can Be A Serious Matter. And We’re NOT Kidding!

KW McLean Cares Golf Tournament

Most of what we write about on our blog is real estate. And that’s serious business. But sometimes things come up that are even more important. This is one of them.

Our office is gearing up for October 5th and our SIXTH ANNUAL KW McLean Great Falls Charity Golf  Classic! .

Here’s more info about the charities:

KW McLean Cares is our 501(c)(3) charitable arm. Our motto is “We Give Where We Live“. And so we have chosen two local charities to benefit from our KW McLean Charity Golf Tournament & Auction: “Our Military Kids” and “Semper Fi Fund“.

Our Military Kids Our Military Kids provides support in the form of grants to the children of National Guard and Military Reserve personnel who are currently deployed overseas, as well as the children of Wounded Warriors in all branches. The grants pay for participation in sports, fine arts, camps, and tutoring programs that nurture and sustain children while a parent is away in service to our country or recovering from injury.

You might recognize the name Gabby Douglas. She’s a young athlete who won 2 gold medals in gymnastics at the Olympics in London last year. Well – guess who received a grant that enabled her to attend a gymnastics camp 6 years earlier in Texas with renowned coaches Bela & Marta Karolyi? Yup – Gabby Douglas. (You can read more about Gabby & Our Military Kids here.)

Semper Fi FundThe second charity we selected is “Semper Fi Fund”. The Semper Fi Fund, and its program America’s Fund, provide immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recover and transition back to their communities.

Here’s how you can help (and have fun while doing so!)

GOLFERS: This year’s event is back at Trump National! Be one of the first 120 to register to ensure that you will get to play on the newly designed Championship Course–home of the 2017 Senior PGA. Space is limited. Your $350 fee will provide you with your round of golf, a cart, breakfast, lunch, beverages and a gourmet reception/dinner, open bar, live music, plus a live and silent auction ticket! We expect a sell-out, so register NOW! (Register here.)

NON-GOLFERS & GOLFERS: LIVE & SILENT AUCTION: In the evening, we have a great event plan that will include a gourmet reception/dinner, open bar, live music. The highlight will be a silent & live auction. So bring your checkbooks & credit cards! You can check out last year’s auction list here to get an idea of how much fun we’ll have! (Get your holiday shopping done early!) Tickets are $75. (Buy tickets.)

SPONSORS: We are seeking sponsors for the event. LOTS of opportunities remain. And 100% of sponsor donations go to the charities. Whether you are prepared to donate $10,000 to be a Presenting Sponsor – or $500 to sponsor a Tee Box, there’s an opportunity to help. This is a PREMIUM opportunity to get your name & face in front of quite a few Realtors, CEOs and other Power Brokers and Power Connectors in Northern VA!

A Day Without Coffee

Ok – maybe that’s not too hard.

But what about a day without coffee, diapers, toothpaste, soap, sugar, laundry detergent, toilet paper and a host of other “basics”?!

Please join The Belt Team and Keller Williams McLean on Thursday as we celebrate KELLER WILLIAMS RED DAY by collecting food & toiletries to replenish the shelves at SHARE of McLean.

McLean Community Service

RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is a worldwide Keller Williams Realty service initiative. Thousands of Keller Williams Realtors and staff members will be donating their time, talent & treasure on May 14th in an effort to help our local communities. You see, at Keller Williams, it’s our motto to “give where we live.” And at The Belt Team – our Mission Statement is “Changing Lives for the Better” – and that doesn’t just apply to real estate!

Tom Francis & Christy Belt Grossman McLean Community Service

Our local McLean office will participate in a drive to benefit SHARE of McLean. SHARE was established in 1969 by a coalition of religious and civic institutions to meet the emergency needs of the less fortunate in McLean, Great Falls, Pimmit Hills and surrounding areas. . And yes – they DO exist in our area. Many of them work 2, 3 & more jobs to survive – jobs that often serve the more affluent residents in our area. Share also serves a large number of seniors who just can’t meet their own needs. Last year they served over 2,500 families (more than 7,500 people).

Share is sustained by donations of food, clothing, furniture and funds, and is administered by ALL volunteers. Agents from our McLean/Great Falls Keller Williams office (including members of The Belt Team) will be outside the McLean Giant. We will be collecting groceries and donations on behalf of SHARE. Look for our tent!

It’s Time To Get Serious!

KW McLean Cares Golf Tournament

Most of what we write about on our blog is real estate. And that’s serious business. But sometimes things come up that are even more important. This is one of them.

Did you know that:

  • Every 80 minutes a soldier or veteran takes his or her life
  • 4 of 5 children of Active Duty Military Personnel and Reservists face increased stress while one of their parents is deployed in defense of their country or while recovering from severe injuries suffered during deployment.

More importantly, YOU CAN HELP by helping us raise money for “Stop Solider Suicide” and “Our Military Kids”.

Our office is gearing up for September 22 and our FIFTH ANNUAL KW McLean Great Falls Charity Golf Tournament, Spa Day & Auction! Last year our office raised over $93,000 for these worthy charities. This year our goal is $120,000. Here’s how you can help (and have fun while doing so!)

GOLFERS: This year’s event will be at prestigious Landsdowne resort in Leesburg. Your $300 fee will provide you with your round of golf, a cart, breakfast, lunch, beverages and a gourmet reception/dinner, open bar, live music, plus a live and silent auction ticket! We expect a sell-out, so register NOW! (Register here.)

SPA-GOERS: We’ll be offering a full day spa package – perfect for spouses who don’t golf and thank you gifts for clients (or even for yourself!)

LIVE & SILENT AUCTION: In the evening, we have a great event plan that will include a gourmet reception/dinner, open bar, live music. The highlight will be a silent & live auction. So bring your checkbooks & credit cards! We’ll have everything from a Rolling Stones autographed guitar to a Napa Valley Wine Country Experience. You can check out the preliminary auction list here. Tickets are $75. (Buy tickets.)

SPONSORS: We are seeking sponsors for the event. LOTS of opportunities remain. And 100% of sponsor donations go to the charities. Whether you are prepared to donate $10,000 to be a Presenting Sponsor – or $350 to sponsor a Tee Box, there’s an opportunity to help. The second charity we selected is “Stop Soldier Suicide. Stop Soldier Suicide is the first national civilian not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing Soldier and Veteran suicide. I’ll bet you would be surprised to know that there are 1 Active-duty Soldier a day and 22 Veterans a day taking their own lives. This group is committed to helping their brothers and sisters in arms get the help they need, without shame or fear of losing their military post.
